Welcome to the Monroe County Fair and Recreation Association…
Ever since our begining in 1823 as the Monroe Agricultural Society, our mission has been to promote youth, agriculture and technology…
Mission Statement
The purposes of the Association are to promote youth, agriculture, horticulture and the mechanical arts and technology; to conduct exhibitions to further these purposes and to use all means provided under the laws governing fairs to promote and operate a County Fair for the education, improvement and general welfare of the people of Monroe County and its subdivisions.
Youth
Our youth programs are highlighted by the Youth, Taking action Committee, which helps kids learn to be community leaders. We also support the Race Against Drugs, D.A.R.E, and 4H by providing meeting and exhibit space throughout the year. In preparing for fair compettition, kids learn the value of competing and working towards a goal. In the performoing arts, our Talent Show and newly created “Fair Kids” TM dance team provide opportunites for kids to showcase their talents.
Agriculture
When fairs first started, their educational role was that of a “trade” association, i.e. how can we identify the best (most productive) agricultural methods. Over time, this focus has gradually shifted towards providing agricultural education to the general public. The fair is one of the few venues left in America where our urban population can still see the real deal.Besse the Urban Dairy Cow is a central part of our fair’s Agricultural Education Center.
Technology
The Space Education Center, which highlights agriculture in space, has become a mainstay at the Monroe County Fair. We’re also members of the Genesee Clean Communities and present alternative fuels exhibits such as ethanol.
